Winter makeover time

It’s that time of the year again. Because of some new dutch law we’re not allowed to ride old bikes in the winter but luckely the weather has taken a turn for the worst.

With the snow comming down we start to think what to do this winter.

Offcourse we plan to make some progress with the hardtail project. Goal is to get the rough mockup done en find an engine. With an engine we can finish the mockup with some nice pipes and footcontrols. The rest of the bike is pretty much done and we are allready thinking off some minor adjustments for the hardtail. On thing we want to change is the rear wheel setup. We’ve found a earlier style drum brake with a matching hub that we will try to mate it with our frame. If it all works out we will respoke the rear wheel to our 16″ rim.

Besides the hardtail we also have to do some maintenance on the daily driver. She has been very forgiving this summer and didn’t miss one stroke for over 4500 kilometers this year. But al that kilometers came with a price. She is in need of some TLC and that’s just what we’re gonna do. She needs some bearings for the stearing stem, swingarm and rear wheel. While we’re at it she also will recieve a new tire in the back. Probably we just gonna change the Continental K112 for a new one or we go a little grazy and fit a Shinko E270 Whitwall. Who knows 🙂 Furter more she needs a new light switch, and off course a new oil filter and some matching fluids.

Further more we will be doing some minor cosmetic changes. We will change the way the sissybar is mounted and finally finish the seat we haven been working on for almost a year now 🙂 To top it all of we will change the mufflers for some nice black ones to give it that little bit off extra roar. After all this is done we finally have to take a look at the top end of the engine. She has been loosing power for the last couple off months. Perhaps the valves are worn, the piston rings need replacement or even worse we have to rebuild the engine. Let’s hope that it’s a quick fix so we start riding again on the 1st of march.
